Vanilla House is situated on the west coast of the island , protected from the south easterly blowing winds and basking in the rays of the golden sunsets that light up the skies every afternoon, in the middle of a beautiful untouched natural vegetation and pristine beaches .Our clients have a vast choice between beaches, nature walks, shopping, restaurants and golf courses.

Vanilla House is also at the heart of the entrance of the beautiful Black River Gorges nature reserve. Our clients enjoy the access to treks and trails not only available for the keen sports man but also for nature lovers. You can either venture out on your own or be accompanied by trekking guides.

The beaches

By foot, bicycle or with the use of public transport you have access to some of the most beautiful beaches on the island, each with its own uniqueness :

The beach of La batterie de l’harmonie  : We suggest you visit this beach in the afternoon either by foot or by bicycle for a memorable moment down the sandy roads towards the sea. The distance from Vanilla House is 2.6 km.

Martello Tower Beach at La Preneuse : (2.6 km from Vanilla House) This beach is the best beach of La Preneuse and Black River for sunbathing and swimming.

Tamarin Bay Beach: (5.9 km from Vanilla House) : this beach is known worldwide for surfing.

Le Morne Beach : (14.6 km from Vanilla House) Le Morne is well known for its white  sandy beaches, the translucent ocean waters and the bright kites of the kite surfers dancing on the waves..

Sights

The Black River Gorges National Park : 400 meters from Vanilla  House  . The road is 5 km long to the parking and is a great road for jogging or riding your bicycle. A guide is not necessary at this point. Once you have arrived at the parking lot you will have the choice of numerous trails.

Casela Nature Park: 20 km from Vanilla House. Casela is an animal and bird sanctuary, with a variety of birds and animals from all over the world. There is a restaurant where you can have lunch.

Chamarel Village. Around 20 km from Vanilla House on the Chamarel mountains you have the Chamarel Village, where you can visit the 7 coloured sands, and have a breathtaking view of the lagoon while eating at a lovely restaurant tucked away in the lush vegetation of the region.

Le Morne, Baie du Cap and Bel Ombre. Around 20 km from Vanilla House.  A scenic route that extends right around the southern part of the island. It is possible to eat at different restaurants along the way.

Shopping

You may carry out your shopping activities in all the touristic villages such as Black River and Tamarin. There are numerous shopping centres and little shops available so that you may take back some memorable treasures.

Restaurants

There are numerous restaurants to choose from in the Black River and Tamarin region. You will find a choice ranging from chic to typical Mauritian cuisine. Your choices may vary between European, Indian, Chinese or Asian Fusion. We would be very pleased to help guide you on your choices. Don't forget that Vanilla House neighbours a quaint little restaurant Vanilla Bean who offer the best breakfasts, and lunches at very competitive prices.

Golf Courses

The Golf Courses in the region are:

- Tamarina Golf Course (18 holes)

- The Morne Brabant Golf Course (18 holes)

- The  Bel Ombre  Golf Course (18 holes)

These 3 Golf Courses are magnificent. You may play on the courses if you have reserved in advance. We can make all your reservations before your arrival in Mauritius.
