History of the Chateau de Labourdonnais
History of La Chateau de Labourdonnais

The property is originally an old concession obtained in 1777 by two young orphans, Mary Louise and Henriette Tréouart de Longpré. In 1814, Jean Baptiste Germain purchased a part of the domain and built the first sugar mill.

In 1821, the property changed hands again, bought by Jacques de Chasteigner Du Mee, who extended the domain -  from 186 acres to 1,400 acres –  until his death in 1847 and named it Labourdonnais. It then became the property of two sisters, Mrs. Bourgault and Mrs.Aubin.

Finally in 1854 , Christian Wiehe, who married the daughter of Mrs. Bourgault, bought out domain.

In 1856, Christian Wiehe , who was an important personality in his times, decided to build the castle; the works were completed in 1859.
